Resage is a reading tool for macOS with an AI reading companion that learns how you read. You can import your own files, and the companion helps you read and discuss them, getting more useful the more you use it.

The first version of Resage is a macOS app. An iOS version for iPhone is currently in development.

Resage reads PDF, EPUB, Word (DOCX), TXT, Markdown, and Kindle files (MOBI, AZW3). PDFs keep their original layout; other formats reflow to fit your screen, with adjustable fonts and sizing.

Yes. You can use our open-source Open in Resage Calibre plugin to send books directly into Resage with one click from your Calibre toolbar or context menu. You can download the plugin (.zip) and load it via Calibre Preferences → Plugins.

You can read your documents just like a normal e-book. To start a discussion, use the input box at the bottom of the window to ask questions about the current page, or click the subtle ✦ icon at the end of any line to discuss that specific sentence.

When you click "Digest", Resage reads the document locally on your Mac (including automatic text recognition for scanned pages). Once complete, you can discuss and query the entire file from any page.

By default, discussions are anchored to the page you are currently reading. When needed, the AI companion automatically expands its context to the current chapter or the entire file, without requiring you to switch scope manually.

Answers are grounded in the actual text of your files, not the general, vague impressions of an AI model. If the companion is unsure or cannot find the answer, it will state its doubt directly rather than inventing facts, which is especially critical when reading classics or historical documents.

You can adjust the theme, reading background color, and fonts (such as Literata and LXGW WenKai) to make reading comfortable for your eyes.

Resage supports several keyboard shortcuts on macOS:

• ⌘G / ⇧⌘G: Find next / previous match
• ⌘+ / ⌘- / ⌘0: Zoom in, zoom out, or reset font size
• ⌘L: Focus on the discussion input box
• Tab: Collapse or expand the discussion panel
• ⌘D: Toggle bookmark
• ⌘[: Return to the library
• ⌥⌘T: Toggle the table of contents
• Space / Shift+Space: Page down or page up

The learner model is a private profile representing how you read. It accumulates insights across your documents and files, making Resage increasingly tailormade for you over time.

You can access it in Settings → Memory (the "How AI Sees Me" page). There you can review inferred points, edit or delete individual entries, reset the model completely, or turn off memory.

Confirmed behaviors and facts are saved as solid traits. Things the AI guesses about your preferences will fade and drop off if they are not confirmed by your subsequent reading habits. You never have to manually maintain it, and it remains completely transparent.

Your files stay locally on your Mac and in your personal iCloud account if sync is enabled. We do not upload your full documents to our servers, nor do we store them.

Resage only sends a minimal set of relevant text snippets (the current page or passages retrieved by on-device search) to our AI inference provider. This data is processed transiently to generate the response and is discarded immediately.

OCR runs entirely on your Mac to recognize text (supporting over 30 languages). The reading and discussion features support approximately 100 languages.

You can start using Resage for free, with a limited weekly discussion allowance. Resage Plus is US$4.99/month or US$39.99/year and gives you more discussions. Importing, reading, read-through and text recognition are never metered — your allowance is spent only on discussions.

Only discussions draw on your allowance — importing, reading, read-through and text recognition never do. And not every discussion costs the same: it depends on how much work the AI does to answer you. A quick question about the current page or sentence uses the least. Questions that make the AI search across a whole chapter, the entire file, or several files for evidence — or that require it to enumerate and cross-check carefully (these more complex questions automatically switch to a stronger model) — use a bit more. The AI decides this automatically for each question, so you never have to choose, and normal reading and discussion is nothing to worry about.

Open Settings in the app to see your current allowance (shown as a percentage) and when it next refreshes. Your allowance refreshes weekly — the cycle starts from the moment you signed up or subscribed — and both Free and Plus show this percentage.

You can start using the app anonymously without an account. If you choose to sign in, there are two ways. Sign in with Apple supports private email relay, so we never receive your real email address. Or sign in with an email verification code: enter your address, we email you a six-digit code, and you enter it — no password to create or forget. Either way, signing in is what lets you keep your subscription when you move to another Mac.

Subscriptions are always purchased inside the macOS app, never on the website. If you use the direct download (.dmg), payment is handled by Paddle, our merchant of record — manage or cancel it from the link in your Paddle receipt email, or email hello@resage.app. If you use the Mac App Store version, manage it in your Apple ID subscription settings. Plus follows your Resage account, so it applies on whichever build you sign in to.

You can delete your account and all associated server-side data at any time from within the app under Settings → Account → Delete Account.

Resage reads PDF, EPUB, Word (DOCX), TXT, Markdown, and Kindle (MOBI, AZW3) files. If a file won't import, it may be password-protected, DRM-protected, or corrupted — try re-exporting it without protection, then import again. If it still fails, email us the file details at support@resage.app.

Digest runs locally on your Mac, so larger files may take some time. You can let it run in the background and continue with other tasks.

Please verify that both devices are signed in to the same Apple Account and that iCloud Drive sync is enabled for Resage.

Your allowance refreshes every week — you can see your current percentage and the next refresh time in the app's Settings. If you want more discussions, you can upgrade to Resage Plus.
